After losing in a heartbreaking fashion in the OSAA playoffs to Western Mennonite, the City Christian girls basketball team was devastated. With lone senior, Kristina Dickinson, on the team, the Lions greatly attempted to push past the first round but were not successful.

“We were really trying our best for her,” junior guard Neziah Castillo said. “After losing we realized that even though we lost we gained something. We gained a family and our bond can never be broken.”

Heading into the 2017-2018 season,

“We want to make it to state this year and really work together as a team,” sophomore forward Emilee Owen said. “We want to surprise the other schools with how we are going to play.”

The girls are looking to build on last season’s success as an underdog and emerge as one of 2A’s topdogs. With all but one returning, the Lions have the potential, talent, drive, and attitude to become the team they aspire to be.

“We have to push ourselves and keep a good mindset,” Owen said. “If we go into a game not wanting the win then we won’t get it. We also have a determined coach in Ms. Damazio who pushes us hard which helps us become successful.”
